Facial Vein Treatment

Enlarged blood vessels can occur on any part of the body and can be unsightly. But they can be especially distressing when they occur on the face.

What are the different kinds of Facial Veins?

Blood vessels can enlarge in different patterns. These include:

• Diffuse redness often occurs in Rosacea.
• Specific enlarged vessels (telangiectasia) can be linear or serpiginous (twisty). These often occur in the midface, especially on the sides of the nose.
• Spider angiomas consist of a central red blood vessel that comes up from the deeper skin and then multiple smaller vessels (arms) radiating out in different directions.
• Cherry Hemangiomas are papules, usually small, that are cherry red in color and sit on top of the skin.
• Other kinds of Hemangiomas can occur on the skin including Port Wine Stains and other vascular birthmarks and we discuss those lesions and their treatment elsewhere.

What causes enlarged Facial Veins?

Facial veins occur more often in patients with fair skin and especially with a Scottish or Irish family background. In Rosacea dilated blood vessels can be associated with papules, scaling and even pustules and there can be pain, burning or itch. Vasodilators that enlarge vessels can include hot foods or beverages, spicy foods, and alcohol. Spider telangiestasias occur often in puberty and in pregnancy.

How do you treat Facial Veins?

At the Advanced Dermatology Center we have a great deal of experience with enlarged facial veins and we have a full range of treatments. We aim to eliminate the vein and the redness and also leave the surrounding skin intact. For small areas we use an electric needle at a very low power. We have the largest laser center in Southwest Georgia and so we have specific lasers that are very useful and efficient, especially for larger areas.

What are the costs for treating facial veins?

Costs vary depending on the types of veins, the area and extent and the types of treatment needed. But we do try to keep costs very reasonable
